Very good hostel! with friendly staff!

My boyfriend and I called to book a spot at Kookaburra Camp upon arriving to Cardwell. The first place we called was already full so we so we decided to stay here despite the low rating on Wiki camps. When we arrived to the reception area we were greeted by a older grumpy man (quite obviously was the owner). This didn't faze us too much, we were just after one night and would've been out first thing in the morning. However, as we proceeded to do all the registration stuff this man asked me where we were from and I answered "Im Australian and hes from Morocco". He looked my boyfriend dead in the eyes with the most disgusting look for a few awkward seconds then turned back to me and said "Well, you're alright".I was horrified and was in so much shock my biggest regret was proceeding to pay this racist. As soon as we walked out we started processing what had just happened and were in total shock. I then decided we were out, we weren't staying where we clearly werent welcome. Before we left, my boyfriend returned to ask this man what that was all about and the guy literally said "Get over it mate" and "Im not rasict I have an aboriginal son". Like tokenising his son and his culture makes him not racist. How he treated my boyfriend was disgusting and shameful. We moved on and had a fantastic stay at Cardwell Van Park where the owner greeted us with a smile and went out of his way to make us comfortable. If youre considering staying at Kookaburra Camp, do yourself a favour and skip it and go straight to Cardwell Van Park where youll have a far better experience in a lovely family business.

I lived there for a couple of years. Very Tidy
